There will be a small bus leaving Mexico City on Tuesday 2 in the afternoon. The bus will depart from Sam Gitler’s place around 5:30 p.m. The best way to get from Mexico City’s Airport to Sam’s place is to take a taxi cab. Make sure to buy your ticket for the taxi cab inside the airport terminal. There is a boot selling the tickets before customs, right after picking up the luggage. If you miss this boot, there is another one at your left immediately after leaving customs. The price for taxi to Sam’s place is about $150 pesos (around $13 USD). The address you should show to the man in the boot and to the driver is as follows:
Heraclito 331, Apt. 701
Esquina con Newton, entre Arquimedes y Lamartine
Colonia Polanco.
Telephone: 5531-5840
In case you cannot make it to Sam’s place by 5:30 p.m., please let us know as some of the locals are driving to San Miguel and we will try to make a special arrangement for your transportation.
There will be another bus leaving San Miguel on Saturday 6 at 3:00 p.m. The bus will get to Mexico City around 6:00 p.m.
Those wishing to get to San Miguel by their own please refer to the following instructions:
San Miguel de Allende's nearest international airport is the Aeropuerto del Bajio (BJX), located 110 km (about 70 miles from San Miguel). Some travelers may find it difficult to get to San Miguel by bus, as this involves taking a taxi to Leon's bus station (about 20 minutes drive from the airport). Many visitors have found it simpler to arrange airport pickup through one of the transportation services that can take you directly to the Hotel Vista Real.
These same services also can arrange to pick you up from Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX).
You can get to San Miguel de Allende from Mexico City by bus. It's a 3-hour trip to San Miguel from Mexico City's Terminal Norte, on a first-class bus (with one stop in Querétaro). Primera Plus, Satelite, ETN, and Omnibus de Mexico all have one to six deluxe buses per day. Flecha Amarilla and Herradura de Plata have buses that leave almost every half hour (most are first-class). Make sure that your bus is a "directo". If you can't get a quick departure, catch a bus to Querétaro and change buses there.
San Miguel's el Centro de Autobuses, (the bus station) is 1 1/2 miles west of town on the westward extension of calle Canal, called calzada a la estación. Taxis should be 15 pesos during the day and usually 20 pesos at night into town and available at all hours.
