Getting there.
Oaxaca has an international airport.
Alternatively, one can take a bus from Mexico
City; it takes 6 to 7 hours. If you decide for
the bus, this
might be of help. The venue is right in front of
the cathedral, see map.
Accommodation.
There is a great choice of hotels in the center
of Oaxaca. Reasonable rooms can be found for as
low as 300 pesos (25 US dollars).

What to do in your
free time.
There are far too many things to see in and
around Oaxaca. The ancient city of Monte Alban
and the ex-convent of Santo Domingo just cannot
be omitted from your first trip. Here is a very
brief list of sights which might not be listed
on the first page of a guidebook, but which, we,
nevertheless, strongly recommend.
Oaxaca is one of the main centers for modern art
and traditional crafts in Mexico. There are
numerous art/crafts galleries with exhibits of
outstanding quality. Visit the Paper
Factory in San Agustin Etla (accessible
form Oaxaca by taxi).
On the road to the ruins of Mitla (a major
tourist attraction, for a good reason) visit
Teotitlan del Valle (hundreds of carpet
workshops) and Tlacolula (the best traditional
market, visit on Sunday).
Oaxacan food is amazing. Try La Biznaga
(Very Slow Food).
If you are a connoisseur of strong liquor you
might be interested in visiting a mezcal
distillery (there are several of them on the
road to, and around Mitla) and the Mezcaloteca.
