Research

I work in computational commutative algebra and computational algebraic geometry. I am interested in particular in symbolic-numerical methods to solve polynomial systems as well as in the development of new applications of computer algebraic geometry and symbolic-numerical computation to other areas of science and engineering.

I am also interested in tropical geometry and in particular in its applications to the solution of approximate polynomial systems. In the academic year 2008-2009 I co-organized a research seminar on this area with Kolja Knauer, Egor Maximenko and Edwin O'Shea.

Coloquium

Jointly with Carlos E. Valencia Oleta, I organize the Afternoons in Algebra, Combinatorics and Optimization. The schedule of speakers as well as the talks' abstracts can be found here.

ACA 2009

Jointly with Alkis Akritas (Univ. Volos, Greece), Hiroshi Kai (Ehime Univ., Japan) and Doru Stefanescu (Univ. Bucharest, Romania) I am organizing a special session in Symbolic and Numerical Computation at the conference Applications of Computer Algebra 2009 (ACA 2009). The session's website and submission information can be found here.
